The Village of Progress proudly supports participation in Special Olympics, providing individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, meaningful opportunities to engage in sports, build confidence, and connect with their community.

Special Olympics is founded on the belief that every individual, with proper instruction and encouragement, can learn, grow, and thrive through participation in individual and team sports. Through year-round training and competition, athletes develop physical fitness, motor skills, teamwork, and a strong sense of accomplishment.

Participation in the Special Olympics program supports growth across many areas of life, including:

  • Improved physical health and motor skills
  • Increased self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Social connection, teamwork, and friendship
  • Community inclusion and personal achievement

Athletes demonstrate courage, determination, and enthusiasm while discovering new talents and celebrating their successes, both on and off the field.

The Village of Progress offers opportunities for year-round training and competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports, based on athlete interest, seasonal availability, and community resources. Staff provide encouragement, structure, and support to help each athlete participate at their own pace while working toward personal goals.
