As I step into the role of Executive Director, the phrase that rises to the top for me is a simple one: Thank You. I have had the privilege of being part of Village of Progress for 13 years. During that time, I have seen this organization from many angles—watching packaging jobs surge, in-house activities evolve, and community involvement take center stage; and walking together through a flood, the COVID pandemic, our 50th anniversary, and many other seasons of growth, challenge, and celebration.
Over the years, I have watched Village of Progress evolve from a traditional sheltered workshop to a truly inclusive, community-focused organization. Not long ago, most work was done inside our walls under the old, sheltered model. Now, it’s uncommon for our days to be spent solely within our walls. What has remained constant is the heart of this place and the people who make it what it is.
To our individuals and families: thank you for trusting Village of Progress with what matters most. Your joy, honesty, and determination inspire our work every single day. It is truly an honor to walk alongside you.
To our staff: thank you for your unwavering dedication, compassion, and commitment to the people we serve. You go above and beyond, often without the recognition you deserve. The quality of life and meaningful experiences we strive to provide exist because of you.
To our board members, volunteers, donors, and community partners: thank you for your generosity and belief in our mission. Your support strengthens our foundation and allows us to move forward with purpose and new possibilities.
And to those who came before me: thank you for building something worth sustaining, nurturing, and expanding.
As we look ahead, I do so with gratitude and optimism. I am thankful for where we have been, proud of who we are, and excited about where we are going
together. With a strong foundation, dedicated team, and supportive community, I believe our future is filled with continued growth and meaningful experiences for the
individuals we serve. Together, we will keep building a Village where everyone is valued, supported, and empowered to live full, purposeful lives.
Sincerely,
Angie Martin – Bakener
